Simulation and Modeling

    Simulation and modeling are another knowledge that I have learned. Both simulation and modeling are in 3D dimension. Many advantages can be cited with respect to the use of simulation and modeling in education. They can increase the interest of a student about a subject.

   Through the simulation, we can observe the process that take in the long period in just few minute or seconds. For example is like the stages of mitosis of animal cell. Simulation offers the possibility to repeat the experiment as often as necessary. All the stages we can see quickly or slowly by control their button in simulation. Execution of the real experiment is impossible because this would take a number of weeks and can therefore not be integrated as such within a lesson. The stages in mitosis are shown clearly and the steps can be repeated. Through traditional ways, students must see the all the stages under the microscope and something the image is not clear. Besides, it is take some time to look all the stages of mitosis. But through this 3D dimension, students can understand and identify the stages in mitosis very well.

   Modeling offers the opportunity to experiment with phenomena or events, which cannot normally be experimented with in the traditional way. They provide students with experience that may be difficult or impossible to obtain in every day life. For example in class it is not possible to experiment actively the movement of the wave. But through the modeling, we can adjust or control their variables. The variables can be controlled in the same time. Unlike traditional experiment only one or two variables we can control and the result we get also not mostly accurate. Besides, it saves time because the experiment can be carried out immediately and do need to set up the apparatus. It also, more efficient because the data collected is more accurate.

    Although they can give many advantages but there also have some of the problems in integrating the use of simulation and modeling in learning. Simulation and modeling may function well from a technical point of view, but they are difficult to fit into a curriculum. Nowadays, the use of this program by teacher to teach their students is very limited. Sometimes, not all simulation and modeling can download and must have internet to access it. So it make difficult if in classroom not have the internet coverage. However, the use of this application, can not replace the practical laboratory. This is because students need practical so that they can better remember it which what they have done.

    There have some ways to overcome problems in integrating the use of the models in learning process. Firstly, since all these application is still new and not widely used in school there will be many issues and some misunderstood regarding this models as a teaching tools. So all teachers must have exposed with them and applying it in classroom hence student and other teacher would understand it more clearly. Students also must exposed with the uses of simulation and modeling besides they still need to do experiment. When experience with aspects of a real experiment is considered important but a practical laboratory only has a limited capacity, and then working with a simulation and modeling program can increase the impact of practical work.

Data Logging

    There are many advantages from using data logging especially in addressing students’ problems in learning. Firstly, it provides time for students to think and watch, rather than spending all their time recording data. By using this tool, experiment can do without need to have a person present. Data logging is more accurate there is no likelihood for human error.  Measurements are always taken at the right time. Unlike a human the computer will not forget to take a reading or take a reading a little bit too late. Mistakes are not made in reading the results. Humans can make errors when e.g. they read the temperature off a thermometer. Graphs and tables of results can be produced automatically by the data logging software. Another advantage of data-logging is that regular data can be collected over very long time periods or with very short time intervals that would be impossible or impractical for a human operator. Data logging equipment can record hundreds of readings in less than a second. Time intervals for collecting data can be very frequent and regular for example, hundred of measurement per second.

  Some of  problems in integrating the use of data logging in the classroom are if the data logging equipment breaks down or malfunctions, some data could be lost or not recorded and equipment can be expensive for small tasks. Besides, not all school in our country has data logging just certain school have it. In addition, equipment will only take reading at the logging interval which has been set up. If something unexpected happens between recordings, the data will not be collected. 

  In order to overcome this problem, every school should provide with this device so that students can take the beneficial from it and use it effectively. Suitable and better data logging also must be prepared in every laboratory. It is because in some school they have the data logging but not functional well. So the students could not use it in their experiment and must do the experiment through the traditional ways.
 

Engage, Empower and Enhance Model

     Through my learning in ICT subject many knowledge and new experience I could gain. One of that was about engage, empower and enhance model. This model actually was the example lesson that every teacher could use it as their model for teaching planning to teach their students.  In this modern life teacher must have different style of teaching, so their students not bored and sleep in the classroom.

    Engage was the methods to attract the student attraction and elicit their ideas. Besides, teacher could know the prior knowledge of students about the topic that teacher want to teach. Teachers also could build knowledge based on student existing knowledge. This show the two way communication between teacher and student was occurred. Not only teacher just gives their knowledge but student also shared their knowledge. Empower include experiment which students must do to increase their knowledge and skill in the topic. During empower, for me cooperation was very importance between group members. So that, the experiment would progress well. The restructure ideas also happen. Lesson in classroom room not enough but I as students think, students must expose to practical so they can more understanding about the concept on the topic. Lastly, during enhance suitable questions and situation was required to elicit student idea and what they understand to relate and apply it with the real life.

    Many value I got from this model which it act as a guide to me as the future teachers to teach my students more effective. Not only just teaching but also involves the participation of students in learning process. The difficulty thing that I must faced in implementing this model is I must choose the suitable questions during enhance and empower. Finally, to make sure all students can apply the lesson in their daily life and use constructed ideas in a variety of situations.

My E-Portfolio

      This was my first experience do the blog. Before this I never had any blogger account for social or education pages. There are many benefits that I got from My E-Portfolio blog. It makes an easy way to do my lesson plans. I can use it as a tool to increased learning effectiveness. After this I could go through my lesson by just access my E-Portfolio blog. I will ensure this blog is easy to use and efficient for the student to make some revision. This blog also allow flexibility so that the teacher can focus or measure a specific skill or concept. In addition, this blog as a tool for feedback from peers in the form of comments. My friend can leave any comment in this blog. Therefore, I can improve my ways of teaching and create more attractive tool of education. Besides, it does not needs a huge amount of money to do it but we must have some effort to make sure our education blog is interesting so other people will like to surf your page.

    Another knowledge I could learned during made this blog was I could knew the uses of Google Docs.  This application can give many advantages as easy our work. Google Docs it is an online word processor, presentation maker, and spreadsheet creator. Google Docs makes it easy to share documents with friends and a colleague. It does get pretty annoying doing it all in the browser, so they made an application. If you have written a Word document in Microsoft word and want to share it easily, you can upload it to Google Docs. Letting you edit the document, a lot easier.

     

Smart Boards

       The use of technology is the classroom is constantly increasing and evolving. The importance of introducing students to current technology is part of their education and to prepare them for the future. Another new technological advancement that used in the classroom is the smart boards. For me as the student, I think smart boards can give many beneficial. 
  
      The smart boards is an interactive board that allows a more interactive learning environment. The smart board interactive whiteboard is revolutionary because of its interactivity, flexibility and ease of use. The smart board is a positive advancement in the classroom that allows for the advancement of students. Today, it is the world's leading interactive whiteboard.  These boards increase the interactive atmosphere in the classroom which in return increases the learning experience. The teacher can project their notes and slide shows on these boards and instead of becoming a one sided lecture, it becomes a two sided experience. Students can edit and make notes on the screen or answer questions directly on the screen. This allows the students to play a larger part in the discussion and absorb more from the lesson.

     The problem in integrating the uses of this technology tool in the classroom is not all school is provided with the smart board due to their price is so expensive. Besides, their uses in learning process are so limited. Teachers more like to use the traditional method rather than use this device such as they just do power point or discussion among students. It is maybe due to the lack of time to prepare a lesson because to make a lesson by using smart boards must take time. Some of teachers also do not know how to use it.

      As a solution on this problem, more importance teacher must have knowledge to use the smart board and they must realize the beneficial they will get by using this device not only make learning become attractive but also can attract students’ attraction in classroom. 

      This technology tool is one of the most reliable ways for schools to change the way students interact and learn with the least amount of capital investment. Teachers will appreciate the selection of user templates and other great features that can only enhance their existing instructional methodologies. These students could benefit greatly from the use of an interactive whiteboard.

 
       

Smart Schools

    Another importance subject in ICT courses that I have learned was about Smart School. Before this, I just heard about it did not know what actually the Smart School about. Maybe before this in my school just has the computer laboratory and not in the concept of Smart School. But now I can know much better about it.
     
    Smart School can provide many options to the learning experience. We can now be tutored remotely, by the best sources available adhering to international standards. Lessons can be stored and retrieved in many formats to facilitate student flexibility. Compact Discs with lesson plans can be made available to students not being able to attend real time classes. With a computer we can now be exposed to the knowledge of the world, pursue certification in many fields, and acquire the confidence that education affords us from the privacy of our homes.

     Although some school is classified as the smart school but the real concept of the Smart Board not seen. They are not flexible, with the suitable design and equipment in the computer laboratory. Sometimes many computers also mostly are broken so only certain computer can use in one time. So, it makes the learning process could not progress effectively. Teacher also does not aware with the existence of the smart school especially about the importance of ICT application. They do know the potential of ICT for supporting and enhancing learning in the classroom.

     Some action should be taken in addressing this entire problem. The equipment like computer in computer and science laboratory must in the good condition. It is very importance, to make sure the objectives to prepare students for the information technology era can be achieved. Teacher also must be active and more alert with the new application technology surrounding them to improve teaching-learning process by the new pedagogies and tools.  

     As a conclusion, the Ministry of education also must take more action to settle the entire problem about smart school so that the teaching and learning process can do smartly.
