Nowadays in this sophisticated life, our country has done everything to achieve our mission to become a developed world in 2020. One of the effort that our government done is through the improvement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ICT become the importance aspect in our life. For example ICT applications as a medium to support teaching and learning. Teachers can made great use of standard computer program.
Even though in our society today has accepted Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a fundamental of it is culture but in education it is not easy to make sure all the teachers and students can adopt it as an integral tool within the classroom. Of course there are many issues in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian School although many efforts have our Ministry of education take to equip teachers and students with skills of ICT. One of these issues is teacher attitude toward the useful of ICT in their teaching and learning process. Although teachers had training in the use of ICT but they unable to integrate insert this knowledge in their daily teaching work. Shortage of teacher that wants really uses this application in teaching process. Most of them especially the senior teachers that have more experience in teaching usually they do not perform the evaluative use of ICT in their classroom for learning. They more like to use the old and traditional lesson to teach the students.
Government has spent a lot of money to ensure all the school can use ICT tools during the lesson such as give the software and hardware. CD-ROMs are at the very least useful for skill-based tutorial use by teachers. Actually they do not know the advantages of this thing which can make the information links more interesting. Today, students are exposing too many new technologies around them such as internet, games, and play station and so on. So as the excellent teacher the old lesson such as by using books and handout is not suitable yet to attract the student during lesson times. Sometimes due to the lack of times they do not have enough time to prepare the lessons that they want teach by using application of ICT. They think all this thing just waste their times and feel more suitable to teach students with their own techniques.
Another issue of integrating ICT in teaching and learning process is about the equipment and facility in schools. Not all the school has the opportunity to use this tool because they are not supply with the computer or they just get very limited computer. So that, the teacher cannot apply the ICT application in their teaching and learning process. Students also are not exposure with the uses of this technology. Sometimes the computer equipment in classrooms is very bad. Although there have many computers but sometimes it is not functional yet. Many of the computers such as in computer laboratory and school laboratory are break down. Most of this computer also is in late version and not suitable again to use in this modern world. The lack of technician in school also is making the teaching cannot progress very well. Teachers do not know how to handle if anything happen like computer not functions and nobody can repair the computer if it makes trouble.
As the conclusion, ICT in education are not transformative on their own. As a teacher this transformation requires them use this technology to improve teaching-learning process by the new pedagogies and tools. The Ministry of education also must take more action to settle the entire problem about ICT in school. So that ICT application can do more effectively in teaching and learning process.
